Cybercriminals are using Aadhaar numbers and fingerprints to withdraw money from bank accounts without the need for OTPs, CVV numbers, or bank details. This type of fraud is on the rise, and it is important to be aware of the risks.

How does it work?

Cybercriminals first need to obtain the victim’s Aadhaar number and fingerprint. They can do this by stealing the victim’s Aadhaar card, or by using a fake Aadhaar card. Once they have the victim’s information, they can use it to withdraw money from the victim’s bank account using AePS.

How can you protect yourself?

There are a few things you can do to protect yourself from this type of fraud:

• Keep your Aadhaar number confidential. Do not share it with anyone you do not trust.
• Lock your Aadhaar. You can do this by visiting the UIDAI website or by using the Aadhaar app.
• Use mask-based authentication when using AePS. This will help to protect your fingerprint from being stolen.
• Be vigilant for any suspicious activity on your bank account. If you see anything unusual, contact your bank immediately.

How to Lock your Aadhar ?

Here are the steps on how to lock your Aadhaar using the Aadhaar app:

1. Open the mAadhaar app.
2. Click on My Aadhaar.
3. Enter your PIN.
4. Click on Biometrics Lock.
5. Enter your Aadhaar number and security code.
6. Click on Submit.
7. You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number.
8. Enter the OTP and click on Submit.
9. Your Aadhaar will be locked.
